trinsy: (don't care)
[personal profile] trinsy
I like how I complain about how much I have to do, yet act like I have absolutely nothing to do. (yes, that sentence was annoyingly repetitive, but I'm too lazy to think of a way to fix it right now.  deal.)

Also, speaking of grammar and such, the flyers/posters all over my uni, as well as the whiteboard in front of the caf, which all advertise the viewing of Pirates of the Carribean 2, pretty much make me want to die.  I mean, it is a high-profile film!  If you aren't sure of the proper spelling, look it up!!!  Is it really that hard to open a Word document or even look up a film on IMDb?  Then there are the neon-green flyers, which query in large, bold letters, "Guys, Have You Herd?"  I have managed to convince myself, for the sake of my own sanity, that "herd" is meant to be a not-so-clever pun, as the flyers are for small groups (get it? shepherding; yes, I know it's a stretch).  If it is not a pun, this would lead to some disturbing conclusions, mainly that someone who made it to college actually believes the past tense of the verb "hear" is spelled h-e-r-d.  If this is so, it leads to even more disturbing theories, such as that same person might also believe that the verb "hear" is spelled h-e-r-e, as in the noun "here", as in, "I am here."  Honestly, what is this world coming to?

Sometimes, when I look at the writing all around me, I fear for the future of the English language.
