Uh, so I don't really post enough here, and there's a 30 Days of Harry Potter thing going around, and I like Harry Potter, so I figured I'd do it. So yeah.

Day 1: Discuss how you got into Harry Potter

I first heard about it just before I turned eleven, the summer of 2000, when GoF was coming out. It was a big deal, and there were all these newspaper articles about the release parties and stuff, and I didn't really understand it. My sister, who was fourteen at the time, decided she wanted to read it, and she did, and she told me I should do the same, but I wasn't a big reader so I didn't. And then my other sister and my mom read them, and they were like, "Yeah, you'll like it," so I read the first couple chapters of SS, but I couldn't really get into it and I just got really frustrated because I couldn't pronounce a lot of the words (such as 'Privet' and 'Diagon'), and finally I got to the part about Percy being a prefect and I read it as 'perfect', and that made me so confused and frustrated that I threw down the book in disgust.

So then my mom got me the audiobooks (because back then my mom and I walked together for about 75 minutes a day, and listened to audiobooks while we did), and I got completely hooked and flew through them. But then there was this three-year gap before OotP came out, and I sort of forgot about it. I wasn't even in that big a rush to get OotP when it came out, but about a month after it was released, my grandma was in a bookstore and an employee suggested she get it for her grandkids, I guess? I don't know, but she brought it home for me, and I pretty much did nothing but read for three days (I'm a slow reader, okay? And it's a long book!). I actually sobbed uncontrollably when Sirius died, and then it was horrible because no one I knew had read it, so I kept bugging my family to read it, and then they did and were like, "Wait, why did you cry? It wasn't that big a deal!" because apparently everyone in my family has a heart of stone. But I digress.

So even after that, I wasn't really that into it, but my sister went to college that year, and one of her friends was really into it, and they pointed me to Mugglenet, and that's how I discovered fanfiction, and then I started writing fanfiction, and it all sort of snowballed from there. So yes.
