Jul. 8th, 2007 10:59 pmSo to prepare for the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, I have taken to rereading the rest of the series. I finished Goblet of Fire earlier this evening, so I now have less than two weeks to read the last two. I'm actually not too worried about finishing in time, as long as I buckle down (I finished Goblet in three days, and that was with long breaks on the Internet and everything). Two years ago, in the weeks leading to the release of Half-Blood Prince, I put off my reread until so last minute that I ended up not starting Order until about eight o'clock Friday evening (I don't attend midnight release parties because I'm far too lazy, and instead pre-order off Amazon). I ended up staying up until four the next morning (scanning liberally in the meantime), which resulted in my mom forbidding me to stay up past ten Saturday night, so that I was barely past Hermione's Helping Hand by the time I was forced to retire. Anyway, determined not to let that happen again (I'm staying up as late as necessary to finish the last one), I started a bit earlier this time. I also told my mom that not only do I refuse to do anything but read on the 21st, I also won't be leaving the house, lest any sort of spoiler be lurking outside. She rolled her eyes a good deal, but she's far too used to this sort of thing from me to argue, for which I am extremely grateful.
Anyway, it's weird reading these through again. I haven't done so since Prince came out, and it's funny how much more I seem to like Dumbledore now that I know what's coming, and how much sadder it all seems. I cried when Cedric died too, something that's never happened before in any of my dozen or so rereads. I suspect this has something to do with seeing the movie since last time I read it (I bawled in the theatre), because I kept thinking of the scene in the film as I read.
In the meantime, I've begun two new fanfics: one about the night Snape found out Lupin was a werewolf, the other concerning Sirius and Regulus. They're both in the early stages, and I won't do anything permanent to them until after I read Deathly Hallows, but I'm pleased with what I have so far. I haven't written anything in ages, and it's nice to do so again.
As a side note, I really must find some decent Doctor Who icons. I'm far too lazy to make any myself, but I've had my icons for far too long, I'm quite ready for a change, and one involving David Tennant seems in order.
