Dear Russell T. Davies,
Congratulations. You made me hate Captain Jack Harkness. That's obviously what you wanted, so I hope you're happy.
Hate, loathing, and abhorrence,

Okay, look. I get the whole "do what's best for the story" bullshit, and how sometimes that's legitimate. Whatever. But three things:
1. If killing Ianto and making Jack the biggest, totally regressed, world-class asshole is "what's best for the story", maybe you should write a different story! I mean, surely that's not the only possible direction this series could have gone. I know it isn't. I read fanfic. So maybe you should have gone in another direction, which leads me to point two, because...
2. If the writers had sat down and thought, "What is the stupidest, worst thing we could do that would get the majority of our fans to hate us and want to stop watching our show?" this is what they would have come up with: kill Ianto. And then, as a bonus, make Jack even more of an asshole than he was the first time he met the Doctor. It's like they wanted everyone to start hating the show, because look, even if they were doing "what's best for the story"...
3. IT WASN'T WHAT WAS BEST FOR THE STORY! Ianto's death didn't add to the story AT ALL! Jack was never like, "Oh, I'm fighting for Ianto!" or "Oh no, I couldn't possibly murder my grandson because Ianto would never let me do that!" or ANYTHING TO DO WITH IANTO AT ALL! The only way Ianto's death contributed to the story was that it gave Jack even more of an excuse to run off and be an emo wanker runaway in denial about how much he fucked everyone over, and no one wanted Jack to do that anyway, so WHAT WHAT WHAT?!?!?!
Fuck you, Rusty! Fuck you and everyone who agreed to those last two episodes! I will not accept this bastardizing of my Whoniverse! No way in hell! I hope you get killed by a Weevil!
